Car/Truck Coil on Plug Insulators

Many of today's vehicles do not use ignition wires any longer but instead employ a technology where a coil on plug (COP) insulator is used.

Links to the automotive catalogs can be found at the bottom of this page.

Did you know the coils rarely fail? It is almost always the insulators that fail but repair garages hate to tell you that! They would much rather sell you a $200-$300 coil rather than a $30 boot. Don't spend hundreds of dollars on completely unnecessary repairs. Convert your vehicle now to Aurora insulators and save yourself needless future expense. Check out the Tech Articles section for an important article on COP failure.

Most COP applications are accomplished in one of two ways:

  1. Direct ignition systems that use a separate coil per cylinder will generally use one insulator for each coil. An exception are dual plug heads that employ the use of two insulators per cylinder on the same coil.
  2. Waste spark ignition systems may use one coil on every other cylinder, that utilizes a COP insulator. The remaining cylinders are connected via a 'slave' wire set, which plugs into each of the coil's secondary outputs.

We carry components for both of these systems.

ATTENTION... Ford Triton and Dodge Hemi truck and motorhome owners. Hard working engines run hot and heat is THE major cause of COP insulator failure. We have talked to countless people over the last few years who have had vacations nearly ruined by insulator failure. Repair bills in the high hundreds to over a thousand dollars attest to the fact that garages or dealerships will rarely just replace the boot but will insist that replacement of the entire coil assembly is necessary (which cost hundreds more). This point cannot be stressed too much.... coils rarely fail! It is the insulators that break down with heat and cause misfires. Convert to Aurora coil on plug insulators which are more durable, more heat resistant and more reliable than stock and, protect yourself from completely unnecessary expenditures and aggravation.

Aurora Coil on Plug Special Features
